Work Place Counselling

Work place counselling is used in a variety of ways to support employees in solving their problems. Every working adult feels stress, boredom or mental fatigue from time to time. Sometimes, these feelings become too much to manage alone. Counselling can be an informal way of sorting out problems before they become disciplinary issues.

Your employer might provide a counselling service, it’s not a must but if your employer offers it consider whether this would be better than a disciplinary process.

Work place counselling is an employee support intervention that is usually short term in nature. The counselling process is about providing a sounding board for an employee, giving them a safe place to talk about issues that trouble them. By attending employee counselling sessions, it helps them to find their own solutions to problems or develop better ways to manage issues. This is not giving advice, but about providing a non-judgemental, empathetic and accessible means to allow an employee to find a way forward.
